Our Science – Centers of Excellence

The NCI Intramural Research Program (IRP), which includes the Center for Cancer Research and the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics , has established three Centers of Excellence. Each Center serves as a locus of resources and infrastructure aimed at accelerating the discovery, development, and delivery of interventions for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer and AIDS. The head of each Center serves as a steward of resources, promotes interactions among NCI investigators and with other NIH Institutes, extramural scientists, and the private sector, and provides leadership in developing new initiatives.

Building upon existing structures and areas of expertise, the IRP Centers of Excellence are expected to lead new initiatives, projects, and collaborations, and thus position the NCI to play a significant role in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary translational research.

The three Centers of Excellence are:

The Center of Excellence in Chromosome Biology

The Center of Excellence in HIV/AIDS & Cancer Virology

Immunology Center of Excellence
